Since 1981, the Missoula Urban Demonstration Project has existed to empower people to build a more sustainable community through tool sharing and hands-on learning. We believe that education, demonstration, and celebration of urban sustainable living will create healthy ecosystems and equitable communities. MUD Tool Library Rules

Established in 1987, our Tool Library demonstrates sustainable living by sharing tools, resources and knowledge, enabling MUD members to improve their lives and homes and become more self-sufficient.

The tools are shared - please take care of them while using them, so they are in great shape for the next MUD member. We appreciate your efforts to support MUD, and the concept of neighborly resource-sharing, by taking good care of the MUD tools.

1.) ONLY MUD MEMBERS MAY BORROW TOOLS. NO EXCEPTIONS!

2.) MEMBERS MAY ONLY CHECK OUT AND RETURN TOOLS DURING TOOL LIBRARY HOURS. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Tool Library hours are Fri. and Mon, 4pm-7pm and Sat. and Sun. 10am - 4pm. If you leave tools outside the library office after hours or return them to Home ReSource you will be charged a replacement fee for that tool and may lose your borrowing privileges.

3.) DEFAULT LOAN PERIOD IS 7 DAYS. High demand tools are due back after two open shifts. (i.e. if you borrow on Friday, tool is due back Sunday).

Contact the Tool Library Office to renew your tools BEFORE THEY ARE DUE, NOT AFTER. Call 406-549-6790 or email tools@mudproject.org.

4.) LATE TOOLS INCUR LATE FEES.

FREE TOOLS = $1/SHIFT

FEE TOOLS = TOOL USE FEE x # OF SHIFTS LATE

Chronically late tool users may lose their borrowing privileges.

5.) TOOLS MUST BE CLEANED BEFORE RETURN

Please remove any dirt, grass, weeds, residues, paint, putty, sawdust, etc. after use. Dirty tools may have a cleaning or replacement fee assessed to the user.

6.) DAMAGED TOOLS MUST BE REPORTED TO LIBRARIANS

You are responsible for the tools you borrow. If a tool breaks through careless use, the borrower is responsible for 50-100% of the repair/replacement cost.

7.) TOOLS ONE MONTH OVERDUE WILL BE CONSIDERED STOLEN

You will be charged a replacement fee for tools you do not return. We reserve the right to contact the police to assist in retrieving overdue items.
